WEST COAST LIVING

About West Vancouver

West Vancouver occupies a dramatic stretch of the North Shore between the Capilano River and Howe Sound, combining oceanfront living with forested mountainsides and quick access to downtown Vancouver. The community is defined less by a single urban centre than by a collection of established neighbourhoods, each with its own character — from the walkable waterfront villages of Ambleside and Dundarave to the estate properties of the British Properties and Chartwell, the family-oriented streets of Caulfeild and West Bay, and the coastal setting of Horseshoe Bay.

Lifestyle is one of West Vancouver’s strongest draws. Residents have access to the Ambleside–Dundarave Seawalk, beaches and waterfront parks, Lighthouse Park and Whytecliff Park, extensive hiking and cycling routes, Cypress Mountain, golf, marinas and the shops and services of Park Royal. Ambleside and Dundarave provide cafés, restaurants, boutiques and day-to-day services, while the Sea-to-Sky corridor connects the community to Squamish and Whistler.

Housing ranges from mid-century and character homes to newly built contemporary residences, luxury condominiums, waterfront properties and large hillside estates. Many neighbourhoods are known for panoramic views toward the Vancouver skyline, Stanley Park, Burrard Inlet and Vancouver Island. The area's limited land base, established streetscapes and high-value detached housing have made it one of Metro Vancouver's most recognized luxury residential markets.

For families, West Vancouver offers a broad mix of public, private and specialized education options. For commuters, access to Vancouver is primarily via Lions Gate Bridge and transit connections, while Horseshoe Bay provides BC Ferries service to Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and Bowen Island. Buyers should consider micro-neighbourhood differences carefully: walkability, slope, view exposure, school proximity, lot size and travel time can vary substantially across West Vancouver.
